The best way to get a feeling of the Roman lifestyle is simply strolling around the tight cobblestone streets. Some historical areas such as Campo de’ Fiori, Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere preserve that typical local feeling, where small artisans still have their typical “botteghe” where groceries are still bought from specialized shops and where it seems like time stood still.
Therefore let us travel back in time as I will guide you around there magical places, all while narrating about Roman habits, culture, stories and fun facts.
We meet on one of the most elegant and aristocratic streets of the city: Via Giulia, where my good friend and great chef Alessandro Pistoia has a Wine bar/ bistrot. He will get ready for us with a refreshing drink and a few delicious tastings of cheeses and other delicacies from his menu. We will then be ready for a stroll around the historical neighborhoods starting from Campo de’ Fiori, crossing the river towards Trastevere, then crossing back into the Jewish District, walking our way to Piazza Navona, reaching Castel Sant’Angelo and from there we walk straight back on via Giulia.
All of this walking surely brings up an appetite; a good reason for us to finish our tour with lunch back at my friends place with typical Roman dishes of pasta and a good glass of wine.
So bring on your best walking shoes and let’s discover the real Rome, the backstreets, the old stories and the authentic vibes!
